The District Education Authority (DEA) Rawalpindi has called attention to the private educational institutions which are allegedly holding classes and other academic activities during the officially announced summer vacation.
A total of 14 private schools and educational institutions have been issued show-cause notices in connection with violating summer vacation schedule of the Punjab School Education Department, official instructions said.
The move is a signal to other private schools in the area to adhere to the government’s guidelines on school closures and learning during the declared vacation.
14 Private Educational Institutions Issued Show-Cause Notices
The notices have been sent by the office of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of District Education Authority Rawalpindi.
The DEA said that while the official summer vacation was in effect, announced by the Punjab School Education Department, the institutions allegedly continued with regular classes and other academic activities.
The official summer vacation starts on 22nd May and ends on 23rd August 2026.
Schools were to be closed for normal school operations during the time unless authorized by government directions.
Why Is the DEA Taking Action?
The District Education Authority said that the schools had been found to have been going ahead with academic work in the summer holidays in contravention of official instructions.
The private schools must abide by rules and instructions by the education authority. If vacation dates are not observed as announced by the officials, there may be administrative proceedings as to private educational institutions.
The action draws attention to the government’s campaign for all educational institutions to have a common academic year along with official holidays.
School Principals Summoned for Personal Hearings
The DEA has asked principals/authorized representatives of the institutions to attend the personal hearing of the CEO at the DEA Rawalpindi.
The schools have also been requested to provide written comments on the alleged violations.
Supporting documents may also be relevant and required at the hearing.
It’s anticipated that the hearing will be to hear from the institutions about their stance and why they had classes or other academic work happen during the officially declared summer break.
Schools Could Face Ex Parte Proceedings
The District Education Authority has cautioned that institutions which do not show up before the responsible authority or submit a satisfactory response could be subjected to ex part proceedings.
This will involve the authority continuing to pursue the case and making a decision on the information and record before then on which there is no further contribution from the institution in question.
The DEA has also issued a directive for private educational institutions to take all current classes off of their schedule until their summer vacation period.
Punjab Summer Vacation Schedule 2026
However, the summer vacation schedule that was previously referenced in the DEA notice mandated that schools adhere to the following summer vacation period:
- Summer vacation begins: May 22, 2026
- Summer vacation ends: August 23, 2026
- Schools expected to resume: August 24, 2026
The schedule is applicable to any educational institution following the instructions of the relevant department of the Government of Punjab (PSD) for education.
Why Following Official School Schedules Is Important
Official vacation schedules are issued to ensure uniformity and consistency throughout the education system and to give students, teachers and parents an explicit academic calendar.
Running regular classes during officially declared vacations can lead to confusion with students and their parents and may also raise concerns about abiding by the education department regulations.
The recent raid on the DEA Rawalpindi by the police is enough to show that authorities can pay heed to institutions that do not abide by the officially issued instructions.
What Private Schools Should Do
Private educational institutions are advised to closely follow the instructions issued by the Government of Punjab in terms of notifications of the Punjab School Education Department and the District Education Authority concerned.
Schools should ensure that:
- Official vacation schedules are followed.
- Regular academic classes are suspended during notified holidays.
- Any special activities comply with applicable government instructions.
- School management maintains proper records of official notifications.
- Parents and students receive accurate information regarding school schedules.
The government is now penalizing the private educational institutions by issuing S.C. notices to 14 Pvt. Schools in Rawalpindi, which is an indication of the tougher implementation of the summer vacation period as announced by the Punjab government.
Now, the schools that are accused of holding classes during the officially notified break will get a chance to present their explanations before the relevant authority. But those not responding or complying to the directions could be subject of additional administrative action.
