The Punjab government has officially announced the revival of the Punjab E-Bike Scheme 2026, a significant initiative focused on providing students in the province with affordable transportation options. The scheme will see 100,000 electric bikes (e-bikes) made available on the subsidised, interest-free installment plans over the next year.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz took the decision during a meeting of the Transport and Mass Transit Department. The provincial government is implementing a long-term plan to facilitate eco-friendly transportation and lower transportation costs for students in order to promote the use of electric vehicles in Punjab.
Punjab Government to Distribute 100,000 Electric Bikes
In the updated scheme, the qualifying students will be able to buy electric motorcycles with low monthly payments with no interest.
For the scheme to be more accessible, the Punjab government will give a subsidy of Rs. The number of electric bikes is 70,000 per bike.
It is estimated that the project will benefit thousands of students who travel safely and conveniently to their schools, colleges and universities as well as save on transport costs.

Down Payment for Male Students
Male students will have to pay an advance of Rs. Before receiving their electric bike, 14,000.
Special Support for Female Students
The Punjab government will offer extra financial support to get more girls to enroll in the program.
Under the scheme:
- The down payment for female students will be paid by the Punjab government.
- The registration fee will also be covered by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Government Employees Also Eligible
This interest-free installment plan will also be available for government employees as well as students.
The increase in eligibility will encourage the use of green transportation options among the public sector.
Punjab Expands Electric Public Transport
In the meeting, officials have told the Chief Minister that the local electric bus assembly industry has been successfully established in Punjab.
The province is taking a significant step in its efforts to transition to sustainable public transport with the start of electric bus manufacturing at a plant.
The officials termed it as a great achievement of the transport sector in Punjab.
1,500 Electric Buses to Be Introduced Across Punjab
The Punjab government also revealed its intention to run 1,500 e-buses in the initial phase of its public transport expansion project in 91 tehsils.
The buses will serve multiple divisions, including:
- Gujranwala
- Gujrat
- Rawalpindi
- Multan
- Sahiwal
- Bahawalpur
- Dera Ghazi Khan
- Faisalabad
- Sargodha
Electric Bus Services to Expand Further
Authorities were ordered to immediately launch electric bus services in the following areas, by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz:
- Kot Addu
- Talagang
- Taunsa Sharif
She also ordered the commencement of operations in:
- Vehari
- Lodhran
Furthermore, officials were instructed to increase the number of electric buses in:
- Vehari
- Lodhran
- Nankana Sahib
The Chief Minister also instructed to ensure sufficient availability of electric buses in every service area to provide adequate public transport coverage with minimum 15 buses per service area.
