Authorities in Punjab have resolved to launch a new facility for taking driving licenses through the postal service, making them connected to the Traffic Police’s Driving License Information Management System (DLIMS).
The proposed integration is designed to reduce delays in the delivery of driving license cards and enable the driver to have more access to tracking information.
Applicants Will Be Able to Track License Cards
At present, the citizens can check the status of their driving license card in DLIMS, whether it’s being processed or printed.
But following the proposed integration with the post office’s delivery network, applicants will also be able to find out where their license cards have gone once they have been issued for delivery.
The citizens can view the status and location of their driving license cards online.
New System to Provide Delivery Updates
The proposed system should provide applicants with information regarding various aspects of the delivery process.
The online system will provide details about:
- The handover of the license card from Traffic Police to the post office
- The current delivery status of the card
- The latest available location of the license card
- Progress in the delivery process
The new plant will offer more transparency and citizens will be able to know where their license cards are in the delivery process.
PITB Contacted for Data Integration
The old one also poses problems to the Traffic Police for verifying delivery-related information, the officials said.
To resolve the problem, the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) was contacted to ensure the necessary data sharing between the Traffic Police DLIMS and postal delivery system.
The integration should make it easier for the relevant departments to coordinate their efforts and have delivery information available.
Move Expected to Reduce Delivery Delays
The new system is expected to enhance the monitoring of delivery of driving license cards and ensure the delivery of cards to applicants in the stipulated time.
Being able to trace a card after dispatch could also help to identify the delays at various steps in the delivery process.
The proposed facility is an element of the broader work undertaken on digital public services and the driving license application process to be easier for citizens in Punjab.
What Driving License Applicants Can Expect
Once the data integration has been completed, and the facility is deployed, applicants should be able to retrieve more detailed information via the online system.
Now citizens will not only be able to see if their card has been printed or is being processed, but they will be able to track its delivery until it arrives in their hands.
The integration of the postal delivery system in DLIMS is likely to ease the process of driving license card tracking in Punjab.
The new facility will give the information on card handover, card delivery status, current location to the driving license applicants which helps them to overcome one of the major concerns that they face while applying for driving license, which is they do not know when they will receive the driving license card and where they are at the moment.
